WISE FRIEND – Guardian of the Bold Cup
In SLAVIC mythology, VELES is a powerful guardian god. Fierce, courageous, and guardian of all that is sacred. You'll find them at the entrances to the most revered SLAVIC temples, majestic and irresistible. This name is worthy of the darkest and strongest coffee.
WISE FRIEND coffee is also a very personal drink, imbued with Slavic heritage. The spirit of strength, fortitude, and authenticity is deeply ingrained in this culture. WISE FRIEND embodies all of this in every cup.
Some mornings you crave something bold, dark, and rich.
A coffee whose flavor is felt the moment it touches your lips and lingers long after the last sip. If this sounds like your ideal drink, then this coffee is made for you.
WISE FRIEND coffee rightfully occupies a totemic place in the COFFEEWEEK collection, being part of a small but bold line of specialty roasts. Yes, we take dark roasting very seriously! Specialty roasting is the stage where the beans are roasted to their absolute limits, extracting the deepest, smokiest, and most intense flavors from the coffee. Roasting this dark roast without overcooking or bittering requires true skill and confidence, and our roasters know exactly where to draw that line.
Not just any beans are suitable for this roast. We specifically selected A+ Pang Khon Arabica beans, the highest grade from our Chiang Rai harvest, because at this level of roasting, bean quality is paramount. Lesser grades simply didn't deliver the unique flavor profile we were looking for—a flavor that sets it apart from other beans. The result is a distinctive roast with real depth, genuine character, and a smoothness that truly surprises those who expect a dark roast to be harsh.
The result is a drink that COFFEEWEEK fans will immediately recognize, but with more interesting nuances. Deep smoky notes, bittersweet dark chocolate, a hint of toasted almond, and a subtle hint of caramelized sugar that lingers in the finish. Acidity is naturally low, the body is rich and velvety, and the finish is surprisingly smooth for such a dark roast. It's intense without being aggressive, bold without being harsh.
If you've always loved French roast coffee but wondered what it would taste like if it were based on a truly exceptional single-origin Arabica from Thailand, now you know.
From the cool mountainous regions of Chiang Rai to your boldest cup of coffee!
Phang Khon is located in the cool, highlands of Chiang Rai, at an altitude of 1,200 to 1,500 meters above sea level. This more remote and higher-altitude region produces coffee with a distinctly different character than its neighbors in Chiang Mai. At this altitude, the cool mountain air slows the development of the coffee cherry, concentrating the sugars and aromas within and imparting a natural density and richness to the beans, making them exceptionally suitable for darker roasts. What distinguishes Phang Khon is its rich flavor and aromatic complexity, especially appreciated when using slower brewing methods such as pour-over, drip, and French press, where the layers of flavor can fully develop. Farmers here have been cultivating coffee together for over 30 years, and this is reflected in the consistency and care invested in each harvest.
Pang Khon beans are also used as the base for several COFFEWEEK products, including Arabica, blends, capsules, compatibles, and brew bags.
